The Executive Committee announced today their intention to continue the collaboration with two of the selected designers from the joint ECAL MAS in Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship and Foundation programme in 2018-2019. The designers will work closely with the Collections team and is expected to actively contribute to the Foundation’s engagements and the 2020-2021 sustainable leather and jewellery collections.

“There is something attractive, alive and ancestral about fish leather. It is a material that is very close to the human sensibility. It is a great and stimulating challenge to create a contemporary connection with these primitive vibes.”
Beatrice Barbier – ECAL MAS in Design for Luxury & Craftsmanship graduate 2019

“Having never worked with fish leather before, this project was a great opportunity to learn about a very interesting new medium. In my project I wanted to communicate its materiality with different shapes, colors and textures, by layering different types of fish leather, and using the imperfections of its natural shape in contrast to the small, perfect details made by human hand.”
